Climate-Smart Agriculture Training

The challenge

Smallholder farmers in the North Rift face longer dry spells, unpredictable rains and degrading soils. Conventional practices no longer guarantee a harvest, let alone a surplus.

Our approach

  • Train farmers in drought-tolerant crops, conservation tillage and water-smart irrigation
  • Promote improved seed, soil testing and integrated pest management
  • Pair training with farmer field schools and peer learning
  • Link trained farmers to input suppliers and buyers

Targets & timeline

  • 1,000 farmers trained by 2026
  • 20,000 smallholder farmers reached in Elgeyo Marakwet by 2030
